Heads Up! (Special Freestyle Edition)
Powell-Peralta
Website: www.powell-peralta.com
Products:
Ahhh, the Kevin Harris "Mountie"! A classic deck, for a classic guy...!
Notes:
Powell-Peralta has a long-standing tradition of supporting freestyle, and they perpetually make quality products. This has been true for over 30 years now. I don't see it changing anytime soon...
Reverse Freestyle
Website: www.reverse-freestyle.com
Products:
The Steffan "Lillis" Akesson freestyle model. Lillis is the guy that many point to, as the spark that began the freestyle resurgence.
Reverse also makes a freestyle-specific wheel. All freestyle wheels share common characteristics: Fairly small, wide, slippery, medium-hard, and with an offset shape, so that the axle ends don't stick out from the sides of the wheel. This is critical in rail tricks where those axles could easily gouge your feet, your hands, or the ground.
Notes:
Reverse is based in Sweden; products are available domestically through Skate Legends (www.skatelegends.com).
Decomposed Skateboards
Website: www.decomposedsk8.com
Products:
Per Cangaru's pro model.
Kevin Harris "guest" model.
Terry Synnott model.
Notes:
Witter Cheng's Decomposed brand is one of the few truly one-stop freestyle stops on the internet, with a wide array of decks (from both Decomposed, as well as other brands), wheels, trucks, and accessories.
Sk8Kings
Website: www.sk8kings.com
Products:
Kilian Martin's pro model.
Gary Holl's pro model.
Legend Keith Butterfield's model.
"Crown Jewels" 55mm 95a offset-hub wheels.
The Crown Jewels, in a black 98a formula.
Notes:
Sk8Kings might be the very best of the one-stop shops for anything and everything "freestyle". And like Decomposed, they also have a huge team of heavy-hitting freestyle pros as well.
Never Enough
Website: www.neverenoughsk8.com
Products:
Sebastian Heupel's pro model.
Christian Heise' pro model.
Notes:
I just recently discovered this little company through some very dedicated research, but it looks like a great little program they've got going on over there.
One Skateboard Company
Website: www.oneskateboardco.com
Products:
The entire One Skateboard product line.
Notes:
One has been involved with the freestyle movement for years. One of the more interesting product lines that they have is the "Performance Tip" technology, which is essentially a composite skid-plate that wraps around the entire nose and tail of the deck. Well-suited to street applications, it also excels in flatland and freestyle applications.
Momentum
Website: www.momentumwheels.com
Products:
The most excellent Kevin Harris offset.
Notes:
While Momentum is far better known as a "street" company, they do offer a very well-built and well-received freestyle-specific wheel in the Kevin Harris model. I saw a lot of these in Philly last weekend, so they must be working out pretty good for almost everybody.
